Our signature red wine combines the original French varieties planted in our vineyard in 1973 with Frontenac, a modern University of Minnesota selection. Aged for 1 year in new American oak, our wine is full bodied, smooth and flavorful. The Voyageur was voted “Best Wine made in America” at the Atlanta International Wine Competition when first released. Drink now or cellar for 3-5 years. (750ml btl)

VOYAGEUR

$36.00Price
  • Our Voyageur wine was named for the French/Canadian pioneers who paddled their way through the St. Lawrence Seaway, all the way to Hastings, Minnesota, on the Mississippi River. Alexis Bailly was one of those Voyageurs who we honor with this wine.

Our Voyageur reflects that same pioneering spirit. Our old world grape varieties came from France (Marechal Foch and Leon Millot) and are the oldest vines in our vineyard, dating back to the original plantings made by David Bailly in 1973. Blended with Frontenac, our new world variety that was developed at the University of Minnesota and released as the answer to a cold hardy wine grape for northern growers in 1996.

The wine is deeply colored with rich flavor; bold and opulent fruit flavors of black berries and smoky vanilla aromas from extensive aging in new mid-western oak barrels. Voyageur is a wonderfully balanced wine that drinks soft and supple when young yet rewards you with greater complexity as it ages.
